Hi Everyone
I am Andy Ward, current chairman of the club. I have been involved in athletics since 1956 and with the club since 1975. 2022 was an excellent year if you were a couch potato athlete with World, Commonwealth, European and Diamond League events.
We, however do not compete on the sofa but on track, field, road, cross country and fell.
Our club was very successful last season winning many individual titles and medals across a range of events, including athletes of the meeting, and runners gaining selection for internationals and other representative matches.
However the teams did not perform very well during 2022. We won very little at XC and our NEYDL team, once in the top 6 in the UK in last 25 years did not win their division. The senior team for the first time this century finished bottom of their league and will contest NE Div 2 in 2023.
We are presently looking for someone to be our NEYDL manager, to collect names of athletes who would like to compete in all four matches and manage the team on the day, if you feel you can do this critical job please contact one of the committee members via email details are on the club website under ‘contact us’ as soon as possible as the NEYDL season is almost upon us.
Hopefully all our teams will once again be successful and gain promotion if the medal winning athletes can team up with up and coming youngsters and established competitors we can field full strong teams and regain our status as one of the top Northern teams.
Andy Ward
